What is a snow athlete?
Its a special limited edition release of the Mitsubishi Pajero. It was made to commemerate the return of the olympic games to Japan in 1998.

How rare are they? How many of them were made?
Only 500 were made, bettween 1996 and 1998. Most are 5 door Long Wheel Base models, but apparently 100 Short Wheel Base models were also manufactured - though i have yet to spot one.

What special kit do they have?
They all have the winter kit (2 batteries, rear heater, extra insulation, heated windscreen, raised suspension). Special decal stickers on the side of the vehicle. Special "Snow Athlete" embroidered recaro seats. "Snow Athlete" badging on the sides. Special interioir trim and carpets. Later models like mine have an unusuaed protruding front bumper with in build spot lamps. Some models have a single colour all over, which is unusal for a Pajero, as they tend to be 2 tone.

Are there any differences bettween model years?
Yes. a few things to note here. Firstly the Pajero had a facelift around 1997, and thus later models have the facelift body, with flared wheel arches. Some people call this model a Mark3, however teh Mark3 really came in from 2000. This model is an improvement on the earlier Mark2s but it doesnt really warrant a new Mark of its own. Some call it a Mark2.5 which is probably more accurate, but if you follow the clasifications in the book "You and your Pajero" by Paul Guinness, then its really a Series 2 Mark 2.
The older ones tend to be green with silver bumpers, and the newer ones tend to be all white, although i have also seen an early blue model.
Only the newer 98 models have the unusual front bumpers which protrude from the rest of the car and have inbuild spot lamps.
The decal stickers down the side are different on older models compared to newer models.

Do they come just in white?
No, as well as White, I have seen them in green and blue . Apparently a couple of other colours are available too. Here is the full list that i am aware of: Sophia white (all over) Satelite silver (all over) Satellite silver / Sophia white (3 way, 2 tone) Satelite silver / Alamo analog green (3 way, 2 tone) Satelite silver /me tearGray (3 way, 2 tone) Satelite silver / Nares blue (3 way, 2 tone)
